Daniel Burton

A native of Chicago, composer Daniel Burton (b. 1944) concertized on organ, piano, harp and cello while serving as Organist/Composer in Residence for the 4000-member First United Methodist Church of San Diego from 1973–2003, following positions at Harding University as Instructor in Music, and Arizona Western College as Professor of Music.


Burton was founder/editor of the Jubal Press Harp Series, a collection of over 250 collections and single compositions and arrangements for solo harp and harp in various ensembles. Recent harp works include three commissioned ensemble compositions for the U. S. Military Band Harp Sextet, premiered at the national convention of the American Harp Society in 2019.


Burton’s education includes the Bachelor of Music, the Master of Music with Performance Certificate from the University of Memphis, as well as composition studies with Erle Moore and Edwin LaBounty.


His numerous published works, offered by well over two dozen publishers, include compositions and arrangements for chorus, solo organ, solo voice, solo and ensemble harp, string orchestra, solo violin and organ, solo cello and organ, and many other chamber combinations.
